This policy explains what data AI Gear Stack collects, why we collect it, and what we have chosen not to collect.
The principle
We collect the minimum needed to understand whether our articles are useful. We do not build profiles of readers, we do not sell data, and we do not run advertising networks that track you across other sites.
What we collect
Analytics
We use privacy-conscious web analytics to understand which articles are read and which are not. This records the page visited, the referring source, approximate geography at country level, and general device category.
IP addresses are anonymised. We do not attempt to identify individual readers.
Affiliate link clicks
When you click a purchase button we record an event describing what was clicked, never who clicked it. The event contains:
- the product name and our internal product record identifier
- the retailer
- where on the page the button was (a comparison table, a verdict box, and so on)
- which article it was on, and which hardware category that article belongs to
That is the complete list. It contains no identifier of any kind, no email address, and no account information. We use it to learn which placements genuinely help readers decide, and which are just clutter.
The retailer you click through to has its own privacy policy, which governs what happens once you arrive.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to The AI Gear Brief, we store the email address you give us and the date you subscribed, for the sole purpose of sending the newsletter. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the address.
We do not sell, rent or share the subscriber list.
Comments and contact
If you contact us or leave a comment, we keep what you sent us so we can reply and so we can follow up on corrections. Comment forms store the name, email address and comment text you provide, plus the IP address, for spam prevention.
Technical logs
Our web server keeps standard access logs — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent — for security and troubleshooting. These are retained for a short period and then discarded.
What we do not collect
- We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site behavioural profiling.
- We do not fingerprint browsers.
- We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone, for any purpose.
- We do not require an account to read anything on this site.
Cookies
The site itself sets no tracking cookies for ordinary reading. Cookies are used only where they do something you asked for — remembering a colour-scheme preference, or keeping you signed in if you are an editor.
Analytics may set a cookie to distinguish repeat visits from new ones. Where required by law, this is subject to consent.
Third parties
We host fonts on our own servers rather than loading them from a third party, specifically so that reading an article does not disclose anything about you to another company.
When you click through to a retailer, that retailer receives the referral and applies its own privacy policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing.
Since we hold very little — realistically, a newsletter address and any correspondence you have sent us — these requests are usually straightforward. Contact us and we will action them.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will say so on this page and update the date below.
